Petition: Reduce the speed limit on Main Road from 40mph to 30mph
Fast-moving traffic on Main Road poses a real danger to residents of Wharncliffe Side, particularly children travelling to school and people trying to cross safely near the Wharncliffe Arms. I heard clearly how urgently a reduction from 40mph to 30mph is needed, and I am determined to work with Sheffield City Council to make this road safer for everyone.
We the undersigned support reducing the speed limit on Main Road in Wharncliffe Side from 40mph to 30mph
We, the undersigned residents of Wharncliffe Side and the surrounding community, call on Sheffield City Council to reduce the speed limit on Main Road from 40mph to 30mph.
Main Road runs through the heart of our village. It is where children walk to school, where older residents cross to reach local shops and services, and where families pass daily on foot. But fast-moving traffic makes this a dangerous and intimidating route, and the current 40mph limit is simply not appropriate for a road at the centre of a residential community.
Near Wharncliffe Arms, crossing the road is already hazardous. Without a reduction in the speed limit, combined with proper traffic calming measures, it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. Residents have raised this issue repeatedly, and the time for action is now.
A 30mph limit would make Main Road safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and school children. It would reduce the risk of accidents, improve air quality, and make our village a more welcoming place to live.
We urge Sheffield City Council to act without delay and deliver the speed limit reduction that the people of Wharncliffe Side need and deserve.
Signed,
Residents of Wharncliffe Side
