Marie Tidball MP recently did a walkabout along Dodworth High Street to hear directly from residents and local businessowners about what their priorities are for the local area.

Marie was accompanied by representatives from South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley Council, Enterprising Barnsley, and Berneslai Homes. During the walkabout, Marie visited key local organisations such as Dodworth Library and Dodworth Station. She was able to talk with staff at the Library about its recent refurbishment, with more spaces for working and studying. At Dodworth Station, she discussed the possibility of utilising currently unused land near the station for improved toilet and refreshment facilities.

She also had the opportunity to visit local businesses in Dodworth to celebrate their successes and hear from them about what changes they would like to see in their local area. One of the key issues raised with her by multiple businesses along Dodworth High Street was the need for a better crossing position near the crossroads, opposite the library on Dodworth High Street, which is something that Marie will take up with Barnsley Council. She also asked Council officers present to monitor dog fouling on the high street and parking enforcement to improve road safety.

Marie Tidball MP said:

“As your MP, my top priority is to deliver on the changes that you want to see in your communities.“Walkabouts are a key part of this as they allow me to bring all the key people together to resolve longstanding issues and identify solutions. It was great to have representatives from South Yorkshire Police, Barnsley Council, Enterprising Barnsley and Berneslai Homes accompany me on the walkabout.“I picked up some really valuable feedback from businesses along the High Street, such as the dangerous crossing situation at the crossroads near Dodworth Library. I’ve taken up these issues with Barnsley Council and will be keeping all the businesses I talked to updated on this.”
