Residents of High Green shared their priorities for health, transport, tackling crime and the cost of living, at a community meeting held by their local Member of Parliament, Marie Tidball MP.
The meeting took place at High Green Primary School and saw people working and living across High Green come together to discuss their experiences of the local community, and suggestions on how to improve the local area. The meeting began by Marie setting out her campaign to try to secure Pride in Place funding for High Green, from government, and for constituents to raise their suggestions of ways to make High Green an even better place to live.
Some of the suggestions made by constituents, throughout the evening, included support for local GP surgeries to get call times down and improving connections to key public services via a ‘Hopper’ bus for the High Green community. Residents also suggested ways to improve the quality of outdoor spaces and play park equipment at Mortomley Park.
The meeting is the fourth in Marie’s series of ‘Pride in Place’ meetings, which will see her visit the 12 most densely populated towns and villages, across her constituency of Penistone and Stocksbridge, over the course of 2026 and early 2027.
Marie Tidball MP said:
“A massive thank you to those constituents who attended my ‘Pride in High Green’ constituency meeting.“There were some fantastic ideas shared for the local area from people who have lived and worked here for decades. I’m ambitious about our communities in High Green and will be pushing government for it to be part of the scheme for areas to receive up to £20 million of funding and support over the next 10 years, to make long-term improvements that residents want.“I’m looking forward to taking forward this campaign and the ideas that were raised at the meeting to deliver the change that you want to see for High Green.”
