Marie Tidball, Member of Parliament for Penistone and Stocksbridge, held a roundtable discussion with local steelworkers, from Stocksbridge Speciality Steels, at the Venue, Stocksbridge, to listen to their ideas, concerns and questions. Local trade union representatives were also in attendance, from both the Stocksbridge and Rotherham SSUK sites.

On 15th April 2026, the Official Receiver announced a 5-week exclusivity period with the preferred bidder for Speciality Steels UK. Marie will be meeting with the preferred bidder during this period in her capacity as local MP, to represent local steelworkers. Marie will use the information collected, at the roundtable discussion, from our local communities, to feed in directly to the preferred bidder during her meeting.

Marie Tidball MP said:

“We’re currently at a landmark moment for our steel site and steel communities. As your local MP, I’m meeting with the preferred bidder during this period of exclusivity with them and the Official Receiver. Before this meeting, I wanted to listen directly to workers at our Stocksbridge site about their ideas, insights, concerns and questions, so I can feed back to the preferred bidder, Official Receiver and government directly.“I am so ambitious about our steel site – we’ve got a highly-skilled workforce, world-leading specialist production, and a unique training centre for apprentices on site. I know employees want to get back to sustained work, and for our sites to fully restart production as soon as possible.“I want any new buyer to ensure our Stocksbridge site reaches its potential once again. As I have done from day one, I’ll continue to fight for our jobs, our site, and our steel communities. If any local steelworkers or families would like to get in touch, please contact me at marie.tidball.casework@parliament.uk.”
