MP celebrates local Schools’ Games Mark success

Marie Tidball MP, the Member of Parliament for Penistone and Stocksbridge, has recently written to 22 schools in her constituency to celebrate their success in achieving the School Games Mark Platinum and Gold Awards during the 2024/25 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to developing competition across their school and into the wider community.

Across the Penistone and Stocksbridge constituency, eight schools received the School Games Platinum Mark Award, with a further fourteen receiving the Gold level. Schools have been recognised for their success in many areas, including supporting participation in local inter-school competitions and creating active plans for the ongoing improvement of PE and school sport. The Platinum Award celebrates schools that have consistently demonstrated a high level of commitment to sport, evidenced by their achievement of a Gold Award for four years in a row.

“Sport has the unique power to break down barriers, build confidence and foster a sense of belonging. It’s fantastic that so many of our local schools are doing such excellent work to deliver high-quality PE and school sport that every child deserves.”
