Marie Tidball MP celebrated the incredible “Four Seasons in One Day” exhibition at the Cooper Gallery in Barnsley, which was co-curated by local charity, Action for Autism Barnsley (AfAB).
The exhibition is themed around the four seasons and presents a multimedia, multisensory experience for visitors. Alongside traditional painted artwork, the exhibits feature works of different textures which visitors are invited to explore. There are also specially designed scented boxes placed throughout the exhibition. Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ provides a musical backdrop.
Members of AfAB worked together to curate the exhibition, with their images and biographies displayed on entry to the exhibition. Marie dropped into one of their weekly social sessions after exploring the exhibition and enjoyed speaking with members of the group about their experience of co-curating the exhibition, as well as hearing about some of AfAB’s other work. AfAB is a charity based in Barnsley town centre that runs sessions for adults who are neurodiverse. This is their second collaboration with the Cooper Gallery, following their ‘Allegories of the Senses’ exhibition in 2020.
The exhibition is free to view and is running until Saturday 19 April.
Marie Tidball, MP for Penistone and Stocksbridge, said:
“It was fantastic to visit such a brilliant exhibition curated by local talent. I thoroughly enjoyed the multi-sensory, multimedia experience. The colours of the images really popped against the seasonal themes they had chosen.“John, a brilliant constituent of mine, is one of the curators from the group, alongside Kevin, Brandon, and Chris, who told me all about AfAB’s other work.“I also had a wander around the general exhibition, where I spotted this portrait by the immensely talented Richard Kitson. He was in the year above me at Penistone Grammar School whilst we were studying A-Level Art — he’s an absolute standout!“I would encourage everyone to pop along before the exhibition closes!”
Katrina Whale, Project Manager at Action for Autism Barnsley, said,
“We were delighted that MP Marie Tidball took time out of her busy schedule to visit Action for Autism Barnsley to meet some of the group members and visit the 'Four Seasons in One Day' that they had been involved in curating. The members enjoyed spending time in the exhibition with Marie and talking about their involvement and contributions to the project.“Marie was generous with her time, interested in finding out about the Action for Autism Barnsley and answered questions from the group with understanding and empathy, listening carefully to their concerns.“We hope our paths cross again.”
